Design House is based on the idea that design objects should serve a functional purpose in a room, rather than being aesthetically pleasing. “These objects inform our lives, improve them, and sometimes even inconvenience them, but always enrich them,” OIGÅLL PROJECTS artistic director Andy Kelly. The gallery selected ten of its favourite Australian designers to communicate this message. It challenged them co-inhabit a single space, while critically analysing each other’s work. Melbourne Design Week offers these designers the opportunity to showcase their work on a commercial scale, in front of design-discerning audiences, in significant spaces such as OIGÅLL PROJECTS.
