Following a two-day, unauthorized trip to Saudi Arabia that was not authorized by the player, he has been banned from playing with PSG. He will also have his contract terminated.
Messi had an optional clause for a third season in his contract signed when he arrived at the club in 2021. However, officials decided not to activate this clause. The former Barcelona star, who is also a Saudi Arabian tourism ambassador, will miss the matches against Troyes, Ajaccio and Auxerre, but could return to face Auxerre, on May 21, if he returns.
Romano continued on social media, stating that the relationship between PSG and Messi was already broken before Messi’s trip to Saudi Arabia, and even more now the decision to not extend his contract has been confirmed.
Messi’s next club has not been confirmed yet, however, fans expect Messi to return to his boyhood club, Barcelona, where the 35-year-old picked up seven Ballon d’Ors during his time there. Rumors are also circulating that Messi may be reunited at Manchester City with his former manager Pep Guardiola, after several links between Messi’s player and club in previous seasons.
