How to charge Apple Pencil 1

You can charge the Apple Pencil 1 by removing its cap. A lightning connector is revealed. The Lightning connector can be directly plugged into the iPad’s charging socket.
However, the pencil sticks out of the end of the iPad fairly inconveniently – that’s where the adapter comes in.
You can connect the adapter to your iPad if you are using it.

Then, things become easier. You can attach the new Pencil to the side of your iPad using magnetic charging. The Pencil attaches firmly so you can keep it on there while you’re using it – and a handy icon will appear on the screen showing you how much power is left in your Pencil.
How can I tell if my Apple Pencil charger is on?
Apple Pencil 1 should charge if plugged in. But you can check this in Settings > Apple Pencil. You’ll see an icon for the battery. If you can see a lightning strike and it’s green, your Apple Pencil will be charging.
The Apple Pencil 2 icon will appear on your iPad screen once you connect it. The icon on the screen shows how much battery life is left in the Pencil. If the icon appears, you know it is charging.
How do I charge an Apple Pencil without using my iPad?
Apple Pencil 1 is compatible with a standard charger. It’s that simple.
Apple Pencil 2 is only useful if the iPad can charge it magnetically. Unfortunately, the only way to make it work is by purchasing an extra item, such as an Apple Pencil charging case. The Pencil will charge the same as when it is attached to an iPad.
